2010 Winter road season

HCC is part of the Northern Combine of clubs who race over winter.  This year's program of racing can be found at the Northern Combine website.

Riders racing in the Northern Combine have volunteering responsibilities.  Refer to FAQ section of this website for more details.

Winter Track Racing - The Sunday Roast

All licensed riders with some track racing experience are welcome.

The Sunday Roast is offered as endurance track training for experienced track riders to practice racing over Championship distances. Riders are split into two divisions and depending on numbers, up to three races are offered: scratch, elimination and points. Riders are permitted to be lapped and can remain in the race until the finish. The main objective is to provide an opportunity to test your abilities under race conditions. In order to minimize costs and given the maximum number of riders is 24 per race, the race fee ($10 for up to 3 races) is set to only cover the facility hire and hence no prize money will be offered.

Hawthorn Trophy Race - 28th August 2010

The Hawthorn Trophy race will be held on the Gisborne South course on Saturday the 28th August. The format will be a scratch race for A to D grades. There will be a separate women’s race with an A and B grade if numbers are sufficient. The Hawthorn Trophy will awarded to the winners of the women’s and men’s A grade races. There will also be a KOM prize for these grades.

Start Time: 10:00 am

Distances:  A Grade: 10 laps 85 km, B Grade: 9 laps 76.5 km, C Grade: 8 laps 68km, D Grade: 7 laps 59.5 km, Women A: 8 laps 68Km, Women B: 7 laps 59.5 km

Trophies and Prizes:  Winners of the A grade men’s & A grade women's races will be awarded the Violet and Gordon Lawrence trophies

$100 prize money for a men’s A grade KOM (laps 2,4,6 and 8 - Points awarded 1st = 5, 2nd = 4, 3rd = 3 )
$100 prize money for women's A grade KOM (laps 2,4 and 6 - Points awarded 1st = 5, 2nd = 4, 3rd = 3 )

Medallions and prize money will be presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each grade.

Club Road Championship Race - 23rd October 2010

The club road championships will be held on the Saturday 23rd October on the Lancefield circuit. This is late in the season so that there won’t be any clashes with other events. It should also be warm by this time. There will be two races. The A grade race will decide the club championship, with the B grade race containing the masters and women’s grades. More details to come.

Wednesday Evening Criterium 2010/2011 Season

Held every Wednesday on the Upper Yarra Boulevard circuit during daylight savings (October to March).  Firm dates will be provided closer to the event.

Kickoff:

6 pm for B & D grades & Juniors (a separate race may be run depending on numbers)

6:40 pm for A & C grades (approx)

Cost $10 for HCC members; $12 for non-HCC members

Entrants must have a current CA licence.

3-race licences will be available for purchase.

If you raced last season you will be expected to race in the same grade this season. Lack of training is everyone's reason to go down a grade, and doesn't wash with the handicapper. If you have another justifiable reason to change grades please email news@hawthorncycling.org at least two days prior to your intended race and we will evaluate.

If you race at another location in Melbourne please enter the same grade at the Kew races.
